What is Matson Adventure Media?

Matson Adventure Media is the collective project of the husband and wife duo of Mike and Sonja Matson. Since we met in early 2005, working at the Seattle REI climbing Pinnacle, Sonja and I have been traveling the world in pursuit of adventure. Whether we're road tripping around the American West; revisiting Sonja’s Peace Corps home in Bulgaria; or paddling the Inside Passage from Seattle to Juneau; we’ve always been happiest in pursuit of adventure.

Of course, part of what makes traveling so fun is sharing our experiences when we get home. What started out as slideshows for friends and stories told at the pub, has spread to a larger audience in the form magazine stories, blogs, and a guidebook.

Matson Adventure Media photos and writing have been published in magazines, catalogs, ads, brochures, and on the web. Our photos have appeared in National Geographic Adventure, Backpacker, Canoe and Kayak, Northwest Travel, Washington Trails, Black Diamond Catalogs and Sports Etc. With degrees in wildlife biology (Sonja at Washington State University) and environmental studies (Mike at Western Washington University), our stories range from adventure narrative, to wildlife viewing guides, to educational.

Our current project is a guidebook for the Moon Outdoors series, Moon Utah Camping that is scheduled to be published in the spring of 2009.
